Holy Bank Heist Robbers Arrested
Seven people who allegedly carried out an armed raid on a jewellery shop and dressed two of its members as a priest and a nun have been arrested.
The arrests were announced by Spain’s National Police on 10th June, who said the robbery was carried out at a jeweller’s in Madrid, that morning.
The footage shows the suspects being taken into custody, with two of them arrested while wearing their disguises, one of a priest and one of a nun.
The incident came as Pope Leo XIV toured Spain, which included a three day stop in Madrid until 9th June before heading to Barcelona.
The seven suspects are reportedly Peruvian citizens, with the pair disguised as members of the clergy entering the jewellery store on Alvala Street, in the heart of the Spanish capital, at around 11:30 am in the religious clothing to avoid raising suspicion.
The heist reportedly turned violent and police were alerted to the ongoing incident, responding to it and arresting the fake priest and nun.
The police said the “priest” had even pointed a gun at officers, with footage showing the seven suspects being detained and with the fake members of the clergy being taken into custody in their disguises.
The police said: “Seven people arrested in Madrid over the robbery committed this morning at a jewellery shop.
“Two of the perpetrators, a man and a woman, were disguised as a priest and a nun.
“The fake priest went as far as to point a firearm at the officers.”
Two of the other suspects had reportedly been arrested after a high-speed chase on the M-30 motorway, with their vehicle allegedly ramming a police car before being stopped near the Ventas Bridge exit.
