Mancunian Madrileño Takes On Charity Three Peaks Challenge
A Manchester-born man now living in Madrid is preparing to take on one of the UK’s endurance challenges in support of a hospice that cared for his late sister.
Tom Danson will attempt the UK Three Peaks Challenge, a demanding feat that involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales — Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon — in about 24 hours starting on 4th October.
Tom is undertaking the challenge to raise funds for the Moya Cole Hospice in Manchester, where his younger sister received care before her death last year at the age of 47.
The hospice provides vital support to patients and their families, but relies heavily on charitable donations. With only around a third of its funding coming from the NHS, the organisation must raise approximately £20,000 each day to continue delivering its essential services.
Originally from Manchester, Tom moved to Madrid over 20 years ago but has remained closely connected to his family in the UK.
“It’s hard to support a family member when living in another country,” he said. “I made many trips back while she was ill and saw first-hand the incredible work the hospice does.”
He will be joined in the challenge by his brother, with the pair aiming to raise €5,000 for the cause.
Tom added “We saw at first hand the good work the hospice did and we really wanted to help out”. If you would like to support the hospice and sponsor Tom, you can do so on the following link:
