Belens & Christmas Lights Herald Seasonal Festivities

Both the Madrid regional premier, Isabel Diaz Ayuso and Madrid Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, have been busy opening nativity scenes and turning on the lights for the Christmas festivities to begin in earnest.

As in recent years, light shows and special creations will be enhancing the magical seasonal feel with works by fashion designers from the Spanish Fashion Creators Association (ACME) to light up the capital.

The whole of the centre of Madrid from Goya to Sol, up and around Gran Via and Alcala will be illuminated every night with 147 kms of Christmas decorative lights.

In addition this year, the newly remodelled Plaza España will feature a giant Fir Tree, weighing more than a tonne, decorated with 800 Christmas baubles as the centrepiece of the new look plaza.

All this as well as the traditional nativity scenes that can be viewed across Madrid, including at the Plaza Mayor and the Real Casa de Correos, which every year has a spectacular display, which draws thousands of visitors each day

The full programme of Christmas activities to cover the festive period until Reyes is expected to be published by the city council on the 10th December.
