Drink Driver Kills Italian DJ Music Promoter In Head-On Collision
An Italian DJ and festival organiser was killed when an 18-year-old drink driver travelling the wrong way down the road crashed into his taxi.
The head-on smash, which killed 48-year-old Edoardo Di Lorio instantly, took place on the M-11 motorway in Madrid early on the morning of 5th March.
Harrowing footage from the scene shows how the taxi was left a mangled wreck.
Edoardo was returning to his hotel from the IFEMA event venue after the Afterlife techno festival he had organised when the accident happened.
The violent collision between the Jeep and the taxi caused the latter to mount the crash barrier and trapped Edoardo and his driver inside.
Emergencias Madrid said first responders were unable to do anything to save the DJ’s life and gave his cause of death as polytrauma.
The taxi driver survived the crash and was taken to a hospital in Madrid, where he was treated for severe chest trauma.
The driver of the Jeep at fault was taken to another hospital in Madrid for observation.
He was later arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Civil Guard is investigating the case.
Rome-born Miami resident Edoardo was a dad of one and had a long career as a DJ and a music event promoter, which had taken him all over the world.
He is reported to have been general manager of the club Opium Garden in Miami, as well as an assistant director at the club Pacha in Ibiza.
