Madrid Prepares To Celebrate Euro Victory
Madrileños like most across Spain are expectant of victory over England in the Euro finals in Berlin.
Spain which has already won the tournament three times, in 1964, 2008 and 2012 face England who have never won the European title.
Spain will face England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday at 9pm, and the preparations are in place for the biggest party the capital has seen in over a decade.
The match will be broadcast on a huge 350-square-meter screen at the Palacio de Hielo, which is claimed to the largest screen in Spain while rwo more giant screens will be set up in Plaza de Colón and Puente del Rey, allowing people to watch the finale for free.
The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, announced on his X profile (formerly Twitter) that the City Council will install a total of three giant screens for Madrid residents to follow the match, similar to what was done for the semifinal against France.
“In Madrid, everyone with the national team! So that the people of Madrid can cheer on @SEFutbol in the final of the European Championship this Sunday, we will install three giant screens in two locations in Madrid, Plaza de Colón and Puente del Rey,” he wrote on the social network.
Spain triumphed 2-1 in their semi-final, with a standout performance from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, while England were victorious in their dramatic 2-1 semi-final against the Netherlands, thanks to Ollie Watkins’ late stoppage-time winner, meaning Gareth Southgate’s men are through to their second consecutive European Championship final.
Should Spain win it will mean a double against England this year following the Spanish women´s victory in the final of the womens world cup earlier this year.
