Madrid Rugby 7s International Tournament Kicks Off

Madrid´s Complutense University is playing host to the first major international sporting event in Spain in 2021 with the Rugby Sevens International Tournament.

Kicking off today and played on the last two weekends in February the World 7s rugby tournament includes the participation of top international sides.

With the promotion of World Rugby, this tournament is organised by the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER) and sponsored by Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid.

The tournament will serve serve as preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games that will be held later in the year.

Madrid has been chosen to host the European event, as there will be another two cities in Asia and South America.

RUGBY SEVENS MADRID PRESENTATION

The venue is the National Rugby Stadium at the Madrid Complutense University, whose main fields and adjacent buildings have been adapted so that the participating teams can stay and play as part of a bubble.  Therefore, two competitions will be held, male and female, with eight participants per draw.

Confirmed male teams include United States, South Africa, Ireland, Argentina, France, Kenya and Spain. Meanwhile, female teams include United States, Ireland, Spain, France, Russia and Kenya.
