New British Ambassador To Spain Announced
The British Foreign Office have announced the new ambassador to Spain, replacing Hugh Elliot whose 5 year mandate is coming to a close.
The statement which has been released this morning reads: “Mr Alex Ellis CMG has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain and non-resident Ambassador to the Principality of Andorra in succession to Mr Hugh Elliott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Ellis will take up his appointment during summer 2024”.
Mr Ellis is no stranger to Spain and worked as a councillor in the Madrid embassy between 2003 to 2005.
He subsequently served as Ambassador to Portugal from 2007 to 2010 and went on to oversee the Brexit negotiations as Director-General of the Department for Exiting the European Union.
Since 2021 he has been High Commisioner to India.
