Other Spanish Liga clubs such as Athletico Madrid and Barcelona have well established ladies teams with Athletico going back to 2012.
Athletico Ladies hold the record for attendance of any club game in Europe.
The announcement was made today following a board meeting of Real Madrid football club presided over by Florentino Perez with the aim of turning Real Madrid Feminino into national and European powerhouses.
“The time has come to build a team that you will all be very proud of,” said Perez today.
Women´s football has since a huge increase in interest and support thoughout Europe in recent years.
