The Meninas Set For Madrid Return

The Maids of Honour figures that proved such a success are returning to the streets of Madrid next month. The capital wide exhibition  includes original maids of honour figures, each 1.80 metres high created by plastic artists, actors and actresses, chefs and sports personalities.

The Meninas, the maids of honour to the Infant Margarita in the famous painting by Velázquez, are reinvented once more and far from remaining obsolete, they closely follow the latest trends.

Each sculpture has a QR code which can be scanned with any mobile device and it explains the concept of the work as well as introducing the maid virtually.

The street exhibition is backed by the Madrid City Council and the Textiles and Accessories Trade Business Association. It seeks to promote the talent of new artists and offer the opportunity to show another side to well-known professionals from sectors that have nothing to do with art.   It is also a perfect opportunity to stroll around Madrid and discover new corners, local shops or gastronomic spaces.

It also has a charitable side as some of the figures will be auctioned and the money raised will go to NGOs selected by the artists or the sponsors.
