The Monstrous Beauty Of Trees
Dont miss the chance to visit the Monstrous Beauty of Trees exhibition by artist Andrea Savini, taking place at the Centro de Arte in Alcobendas.
The collection of 35 large-format images capturing nature’s vast and intricate geometries, from delicate labyrinths to eerie, sometimes supernatural silhouettes. In an ever-accelerating world, “it invites us to pause for a moment and reflect on the natural world around us and the tiny details it conceals within.”
“Looking out from the balcony of my eighth floor apartment in Madrid many years ago, I began photographing the city’s trees from an unusual perspective, seeking to delve into
their structures to trace their branches and stems from a different viewpoint. Seemingly passive, I watched how, in fact, they interacted with the elements and their environment to form vast and intricate geometries – from delicate labyrinths to eerie, sometimes supernatural silhouettes.”
The Monstruous Beauty of Trees is a collection of 35 large-format images that capture this perfection, inviting us to pause for a moment and observe and reflect on the nature around
us and the tiny details hidden within. “A journey that feels both dreamlike and grounded in reality, inviting us to rediscover the beauty in the everyday.”
As anthropologist and ethnobotanist Dr. Miguel Alexiades, author of the introduction, writes: “The tree lives and becomes in a world that surpasses the limitations of our senses
and our temporality. For a day of our lives is barely minutes in that of a tree.
“If we stop to observe it carefully, we might for instance be inspired, reassured, or moved by the intricate and labyrinthine beauty or geometry of its forms. But it is also possible that we
see in it something mysterious, disturbing, perhaps even monstrous… perhaps because of a niggling suspicion that its branches, trunk, and scars speak to us silently, even if we are not
sure about what.”
The first images of The Monstrous Beauty of Trees were shown in 2017, evolving to form a full collection premiered in Italy in 2023.
Andrea Savini’s accolades include La Caixa’s prestigious FotoPres award, the Silver Sun from San Sebastián’s Advertising Festival, and honourable mentions in the iPhone/IPPAWARDS.
His work has been exhibited in galleries, cultural centers and art fairs, including Conde Duque in Madrid, the Milan Fashion Museum, Arco, Art Futura, and CaixaForum.
