Dramatic Mountain Helicopter Rescue In Aragon
The Guardia Civil have rescued an injured mountaineer by helicopter after he suffered a serious fall during a climb
The footage was obtained from the Guardia Civil on 27th April, with the incident taking place in the mountain area of Pico Garmo Negro near Panticosa in the Aragon region.
Specialist mountain rescue personnel, together with an air unit and medical staff, were deployed to assist the 47-year-old mountaineer, unnamed but reportedly from Madrid, who suffered multiple injuries after falling in the Majada Alta area.
A joint response involving GREIM members from Spain’s special units of the Civil Guard who carry out mountain and cave rescues, the local air unit and a doctor from the emergency medical service was carried out before the injured climber was evacuated from the location.
The Guardia Civil said in a statement: “Rescue successfully completed at Pico Garmo Negro in Panticosa.
“Members of the GREIM, the Huesca air unit and a doctor from 061 assisted a 47-year-old mountaineer who suffered an accident in Majada Alta.
“After a fall resulting in multiple injuries, he was evacuated.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery!”
The injured man was reportedly transported to the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca for treatment.
The operation formed part of mountain emergency response work in the Pyrenees area, where specialist units regularly respond to climbing and hiking accidents in difficult terrain.
