Madrid Counts Cost As Nordic Cold Bites Return To Normality

The affects of Storm Filomena are still being felt in the capital as Madrid’s inhabitants struggled to return to normality.

Barajas Airport has now re-opened and the Madrid regional bus service is operating a limited service.

Madrid´s Metro network is functioning and the Madrid overland commuter Cercanias services have been resumed.

However school premises remain closed as pupils are forced to have online classes for today and tomorow Tuesday 12th Janaury.

The Madrid regional government may extend the school closure due to the difficulty being experienced due to the snow.

In addition to the heavy snowfall the cold snap is forecast to continue all week with temperatures falling to overnight lows of -9 degrees.

Many of Madrid´s bars and restaurants – already suffering from reduced capacity due to Covid restrictions have been forced to close with an estimated 85% unable to reopen today costing the sector an estimated 70 million Euros in losses.
