Madrid Heatwave Bites
The Madrid Health Authorities today issued a health warning urging people to keep hidrated as the temperature in the region remained around the 40 degree mark.
The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) also announced an Orange Heat Alert for the south and east of the region whilst maintaining a lighter Yellow Alert for the central metropolitan area and Sierra of Madrid.
Temperatures have been in the high 30s and low 40s all week and are set to continue for the remainder to the week with the afternoons between 14.00 and 20.00 seeing the peak temperatures.
Health authorities have been urging people to drink plenty of liquids, fruit, salads with a recommended intake of 2 litres per day as well as avoiding going out during the peak afternoon hours.
Many Madrileños have already left the baking city for holiday homes and family villages to escape the heat.
