Madrid Announces Obligatory Use Of Face Masks

The regional government of Madrid has announced that the use of face masks in all public spaces is now obligatory.  Madrid is the last of the mainland Communidades in introducing the measure.

The President of the Madrid Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso made the announcement today along with other measures to tackle the surge in covid-19 cases being seen in the country.

Additional measures include further restrictions on capacity of street terrazas and a maximum of 10 people in groups inside bars and restaurants to avoid bunching and large crowds.

Terrazas and street cafés will now close at 1.30 and no customers will be allowed to sit after 0.100.

Madrid is not yet closing late night bars and clubs but they will now have to take customer details on entry for tracking and tracing purposes.

The municipal police have reported an increase in fines for venues breaking hygene and social distancing protocols.

Five people were arrested yesterday in Tetuán when police tried to break up a gathering.

Madrid has 138 hospitalised cases in the region of which 27 are in ICU wards.

Real Madrid Football Club announced today that it´s striker Mariano has tested positive for Covid-19 and was self-isolating “complying with the sanitary isolation protocol at home”.
