Madrid Ranks As Top European Destination For Noctourism Tours

As travel trends shift towards more unique and immersive experiences, a new phenomenon is lighting up the industry – noctourism – exploring cities after dark.

New research by Good Travel Management has revealed that Madrid ranks as the 2nd best city in the world for noctourism, offering one of the richest selections of after-dark attractions anywhere in the world, with 323 of its top-rated sights open late.

The study analysed top-rated attractions across major global cities to find which offer the best after-dark experiences, from stargazing and night tours to late-opening theatres and galleries.

Chicago topped the list, followed by Madrid and Dublin, while 60% of the top 10 cities are in Europe, highlighting the continent’s thriving evening culture.

Noctourism, the recent trend of exploring the world after dark, is making its mark on travel this year.

Nocturnal excursions rose by 25 percent in 2024. A recent survey showed 62 percent of global respondents are considering trips with nighttime experiences.

Amid overtourism, noctourism offers visitors opportunities to experience renowned sights in a transformed ambience after sunset.

In light of this growing trend, leading business travel management company Good Travel Management conducted a study ranking the top global cities for nocturnal tourism activities.

Madrid takes second place globally, with 14.9 percent (323) of its best attractions open late.

Award winning local tour operator Madrid Adventures that offers Night Tours said that “Madrid at night can be a magical place – especially midweek – with plenty of local taverns and restaurants and always a vibrant but safe atmposphere.”

Madrid is renowned for its nights tours, which visit attractions such as the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral, and the Segovia Bridge, all beautifully lit up at night whilst opera fans head to the Teatro Real and gastro lovers enjoy the streets around.
