Madrid’s Dabid Muñoz Wins Worlds Best Chef As Spain Dominates

Madrileño star chef Dabid Muñoz has won the 5th annual Best Chef Awards 2021 at a Gala ceremony, held in Amsterdam last night.

His 3 Michelin starred Diverxo, serves three tasting menus offering a fusion eastern and western cooking that promises “new unexplored ways of understanding the gastronomic experience” and ” a journey through the hedonistic,greedy and creative world of Dabiz Muñoz, avant-garde cuisine in which everything is possible”.

Gastro lovers in Madrid can also sample his cuisine in the El Corte Ingles’s Gourmet Experience on Serrano 52 where the “decor and the food conjures up the atmosphere of a Hong Kong wet market or Singapore food alley”.

Muñoz told the audience that: ” A dream come true that recognizes many years of creativity, dedication, passion and hard work,”he said, “Getting number one in The Best Chef Awards is the greatest joy. Incredible pride and responsibility. The fucking greatest! My team and I are clear that this is only the beginning, and the best is yet to come. There are no limits. in sight. “

“The same goes for me, Madrid, which strikes me as one of the most exciting cities in the world today for gastronomy,” he said of his home city.

Muñoz shared the Top 100 with 13 other Spaniards;  No 3 spot to Andoni Luis Aduriz and No4 to Joan Roca, who also won “Best Chef Science Award” for “research, experimental techniques and transformation”.

Other Spanish chefs recognised at the award ceremony included Mateu Casaas (6), Martin Berasategui (28), Eneko Atxa (31), Paco Roncero (45), Angel Len (48), Paco Morales (54), Quique Dacosta (57), Jordi Cruz (59), Toni Romero (87) and Diego Guerrero (89).

The winners are drawn from a nominated shortlist of 200 chefs by industry professionals who scour the world for fresh talent.
