Madrid’s Flame Of Remembrance & Spain’s Official Mourning

Spain declares 10-day official mourning for coronavirus victims as Madrid opens a flame of remembrance and plaque to the victims of coronavirus.

The Spanish government has also declared a 10-day official period of morning from May 27th in honour of the nearly 27,000 people who have died from the coronavirus pandemic.

The Madrid government head Isabel Diaz Ayuso that in addition the “Covid -19 heroes” would have a statue donated by the artist Victor Ochoa as a monument. She announced there would be a public contest to choose the design.

During the mourning period, flags will fly at half-mast at official government buildings and there would be a closing cereromy presided over by King Felipe.

The font used in the Madrid plaque – Hobo – has been widely ridiculed on social media.
