Bank Heist Gang Busted By Civil Guards
A gang of bank robbers who had been terrorising businesses and banks in the Madrid region have been arrested.
The specialist Civil Guard unit raided the gang´s premises on the 6th May and arrested six people as well as seizing specialist equipment used in the heists.
The Guardia Civil said in a statement: “The Civil Guard has dismantled a criminal group of six individuals who specialised in and had extensive experience carrying out bank robberies across the country.
“They used high-powered vehicles and highly specialised tools to commit their heists in a matter of minutes.
“The investigation began in October 2025, following an increase in thefts of high-end vehicles in the province of Madrid. The license plates of these cars were replaced with stolen or forged ones, which were then used to commit robberies at banks.
“This criminal group is attributed with the robbery of bank entities in the towns of Cardenadijo, Burgos, Montemayor de Pinilla, Valladolid, Barrax, Albacete, La Puebla del Salvador, Cuenca, as well as El Torrico and Casarrubios del Monte, Toledo.
“The members of this criminal group stole high-powered vehicles, primarily in the province of Madrid, and used them to commit robberies and flee the scene quickly. It was also discovered that they hid the vehicles on a plot of farmland in the Chinchon valley.
“Once the license plates of the stolen vehicles had been modified, they would travel to small towns in Spain and, during the early morning hours, disable the security measures of the banks, even cutting the wiring or using frequency jammers.
“After gaining access to the bank, they used highly specialised tools to remove the safe in a matter of minutes, load it into their vehicle, and flee the scene. In this way, they were able to steal more than EUR 140,000 in a single night.
“During the operation, five searches were carried out and all six members of the criminal group were arrested.”
“In addition, various items related to the robberies have been seized: four vehicles, hydraulic pliers, a thermal lance, angle grinders, frequency jammers, blank keys, lock cylinder extractors, GPS geolocation devices, covert video cameras, various electronic devices, as well as money and clothing used in the commission of different criminal acts.
“The six detainees are charged with thirty-two criminal acts and after being brought before the court, they have all been ordered to be held in pretrial detention.”
The authorities said that the police investigation involved units from the Madrid, Toledo and Burgos Commands.
