Snow & Yellow Weather Alert For Madrid Sierra

Spain´s State Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow weather warning for the north of the Madrid region as well as some parts of Castilla y Leon as a mass of polar air hits the peninsula.

Some 10 cms of snow is expected in the Madrid Sierra in the next 48 hours with the snow resort weather portal j2ski forecasting 46 cms for the Madrid ski resort of Puerto Navacerrada.

The DGT has ordered drivers to put snow chains on vehicles if driving in or around Cotos or Navecerrada, as the snowfall is making driving conditions perilous whilsts Madrid´s 112 emergency services have cautioned drivers to not make journeys unless necessary.

Vehicles without snow chains will not be permited.

The Madrid authorities have confirmed that 16 snow clearance vehicles are in operation on the region´s roads.

Other parts of Spain are also being affected with polar weather front bringing cold temperatures, widespread rain and significant snowfall to large parts of the country.

Madrid capital is unlikely to celebrate a white Christmas with only sleet and rain expected this week and Christmas Day forecast a high of 8 degrees and overcast.
