Time Out Crowns Madrid As Best Foodie Destination In Europe

Madrid has been named as the best city in Europe for food  according to a global survey by Time Out magazine. The Spanish capital now ranks ahead of culinary heavyweights such as Paris or its arch-rival Barcelona.

The ranking is based on thousands of votes from city residents around the world and was influenced by factors including food quality, diversity, innovation and local reputation. Madrid was placed fifth globally – a position that reflects its rising international status as a global tourist destination.

According to the results of the survey the ” Spanish capital beat out the likes of other titans when it comes to dining out in Europe, garnering an impressive 90 percent approval rating from the thousands of locals we surveyed, who described its scene as ‘diverse’ and ‘experimental’.

Madrid’s food scene has always been renowned but it is what is going on now that is garnering interests from the world´s foodies.
According to Time Out Madrid’s Food and Drink editor, Gorka Elorrieta, “natural wine bistros are everywhere, small bakeries are thriving, and young chefs are making waves at OSA, Chispa, Lur and Tonton, while the Trafalgar neighbourhood is bursting with exciting new openings”
A reflection of the capital´s new found status, one of the food industry´s largest trade gatherings, the 38th Salon Gourmets takes place this week at Madrid´s IFEMA bringing professionals from across the globe to Spain´s leading gastronomic food fair.
