A Journey Back In Time To Medieval Sigüenza

A journey through time as well as through the Castilian countryside awaits for intrepid travellers who hop on the Medieval Train from Madrid to the enchanting city of Sigüenza which was one of the most important in Castille during the Middle Ages.

The journey takes just an hour and twenty minutes, accompanied by jolly troubadours and heroic knights who use music and theatre to tell you about the history of the villages and towns that you pass on the way – all served with a selection of regional artesanal cakes and pastries.

Once you arrive, you will be giving a guided tour of the city’s main landmarks in Spanish or you  book and English-Speaking tour guide to look after you for a memorable day out.

The city dates back to pre-Roman times and was a leading city for trade for much of the middle ages being held by Visigoths, Moors and Castilians over its rich and bloody history.

This year, the city recieved a visit from King Felipe VI to support Sigüenza´s bid to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The popular return trip allows you a whole day ( 8 hours) where you can stroll through the cobbled streets and wind your way around the ancient walls to take in the Plaza Mayor, many Romanesque churches, Plaza del Doncel, as well as the emblematic castle’s Patio de Armas.

In addition, you can try out some traditional fare such as migas (fried breadcrumbs with minced meat and vegetables), sopa castellana (Castilian garlic soup), asado de cabrito (roast kid goat), and the Yemas del Doncel (a dessert made from sweetened egg yolk).

Be sure to keep an eye out, because a lot of restaurants offer 10% discounts on their a-la-carte menu if you show them your Medieval Train ticket. After lunch, you will have some time to stroll around the city at your leisure and discover other landmarks like the Gothic Cathedral.
