Carrefour Launches 30 Essentials Basket For €30
The supermarket chain Carrefour has been the first off the mark in response to the governments appeal to large retailers to offer specially reduced prices for consumers.
The French chain has announced that it is launching a basket of 30 essential goods for €30 from today, Monday, 12th September.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Yolanda Díaz, who had announced she was seeking agreements with supermarkets said the government was seeking to provide some relief for impoverished families amid the current hike in inflation due to the ongoing energy crisis as a result of the continuing fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Diaz said she will next week meet with other top supermarket chains including Mercadona, Lidl and DIA, which together represent over one-third of the country’s grocery market share.
Inflation hit 10.3% in August – a figure not seen for over 4 decades.
Carrefour has a 9% market share in Spain and nearly 1,500 establishments – second only to Spanish rivals Mercadona.
The products include basic items for food, cleaning and other household items can be purchased at any Carrefour supermarkets, Carrefour Market or ordered online.
