Convicted Killer Of Alcasser Girls Arrested Again

The notorious Spanish killer who was convicted for kidnapping, raping and then killing  three schoolgirls in what became known as the Alcasser Murders has been arrested again, this time for drug trafficking.

The crime, which shocked Spain, was also the subject of the 2019 Netflix documentary The Alcasser Murders‘.

Miguel Ricart, 53, is the only person to have been convicted of the kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of Miriam Garcia Iborra, 14, Toni Gomez Rodriguez, 15, and Desiree Hernandez Folch, 14.

He was sentenced to 170 years behind bars in 1997 but was released after serving just 21 following a ruling by the EU Court of Justice.

But now he has been arrested again after being caught in a drug den in Barcelona.

Officers from the Guardia Urbana and Mossos d’Esquadra (Barcelona and Catalonia police forces) seized Ricart inside the drug flat he was running in the Raval neighbourhood on 20th December.

They had been monitoring the apartment for a while and had identified Ricart a few weeks earlier.

They say he was being paid by a criminal gang made up of people from the Dominican Republic.

Police arrested another Spanish man and a Nicaraguan man in the flat, as well as seizing 25 grammes (0.9 oz) of cocaine and eight (0.3 oz) of heroin.

Both Ricart and the Nicaraguan man were remanded in custody and were due to attend a court hearing on charges of drug trafficking at the time of reporting.

The flat, which police said was being rented and not squatted, has now been sealed off.

Ricart had often been seen in queues for benefit payments in the area, reported local media.

However, had not been recognised by members of the public due to his changed appearance since his release from prison in 2013.

Ricart and his accomplice, Antonio Angles, had picked Miriam, Toni, and Desiree up after finding them trying to hitch a ride to a nightclub in Picassent in November 1992.

The girls’ bodies were found in a ditch in Tous the following January.

Angles is still among Interpol Most Wanted criminals and is believed by some to have drowned after jumping overboard a container ship he had stowed away on to evade capture.
