Fairground Horror As Carriage Ride Snaps Off Mid-Air
This is the horrifying moment a fairground ride flips over tipping out three terrified teenage girls at high speed while a screaming crowd looks on.
The shocking spill in Castro Urdiales, in Cantabria, on the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain, happened on Saturday, 21st June, when one of the carriages on the Grasshopper ride broke free and flipped upside down.
Grim phone footage shows that as the ride reaches its top speed, the mounts holding the carriage to its arm give way and bits start to fly off.
Two girls were hurled out onto the ground, and one is seen staggering away from the ride.
A third is seen clinging to the safety bar for dear life as she dangles down with her head missing safety barriers by inches.
Local media reports say the three girls, all aged 14 and 15, were rushed to the city’s Cruces Hospital by paramedics.
One, whose condition has not been released by medics, is understood to be seriously injured.
A second less seriously hurt victim was kept in for further treatment and the third was allowed home.
City Hall safety officials have shut down the ride while Civil Guard police are investigating the incident.
