Fugitive British Rapist Arrested In Madrid

A suspect accused of multiple rapes has been seized in Madrid after a British woman reported him to police in London.

Spain’s Policia Nacional (National Police) noted that the suspect had altered his appearance in an apparent bid to avoid arrest.

The woman accuses him of having raped and physically assaulted her several times at his parents’ house on the Mediterranean holiday island of Majorca.

The National Police did not reveal the identities of either the suspect or the complainant.

In a statement obtained by Newsflash on 16th September, the National Police said: “National Police officers have arrested the alleged perpetrator of a crime of aggravated sexual assault suffered by a British woman when she was in Palma de Mallorca on holiday in September 2021. The investigation began after a complaint filed by the victim with the London Metropolitan Police, who reached UFAM Central through Interpol.”

UFAM is a 24-hour Spanish National Police Centre specialised in assisting victims of rape, sexual assault and gender-based violence.

The statement continued: “In her complaint filed with the British police authorities, the victim provided an approximate location of the place where the events took place, as well as the characteristics of the house and various descriptive details about the interior of the property, recalling that the individual had told her that the house was owned by his parents.

“The victim told officers how they had met, the name that the individual had given her, and how the young man had told her that he wanted to begin a friendship with her. She also stated that after accompanying the man to his home, she was sexually and physically assaulted on several occasions. After suffering the attacks, she left the place and told what had happened to a friend who was in her country, where she filed the complaint.

“Based on all the information obtained, specialist officers took first steps to locate the alleged perpetrator of the acts, the location of the place of the attack being key with the details provided by the victim. With all this, the investigation to find out the whereabouts of the property began via corresponding inquiries, with officers suspecting that it could be a rental apartment. After viewing the photos of an advertisement of a rental home, the agents were able to determine that it fully coincided with the detailed description that the victim had provided in the complaint, observing significant details.

“After phoning the number that appeared in the advertisement, the call was answered by an individual who identified himself with the same name that the victim gave, and introduced himself as the son of the owners of the house.

“With all the evidence collected, the alleged perpetrator was fully identified, whom the victim recognised despite the fact that his physical appearance had changed considerably.

“To complete the investigation, officers asked the British authorities to take a statement from the witness to whom the victim had recounted the events shortly after they occurred, who confirmed in her testimony what the victim had said.

“After a year-long investigation, with constant collaboration and cooperation with the British police, a measure was put into place to locate and arrest the alleged perpetrator in Madrid, where he alternated his residence with the city of Palma de Mallorca, for an alleged crime of rape.”
