Guide To Spain Latest Covid Restrictions For All Regions

The Spanish government´s state of alarm decree was approved by Parliament to run for a six month period until the 9th May 2021.

If you are travelling to or within Spain we have compiled a summary of the current covid restrictions with up to date information and links to each regional authorities official site.

The State of Alarm came into legal effect with the publication of its measures in the Official Government Gazette *BOE.

The regional authorities impose their own measures in coordination with the central government´s strategy and national measures.

The key provisions of the state alarm are as follows:

  • Overnight Curfews for the whole of Spain from 23.00 to 0600 with a regional margin of one hour if approved locally.
  • Restriction on social gatherings
  • Restriction of opening hours and capacity of establishments
  • Restrictions on moving between towns, provinces, regions and autonomous communities entry and exit from a region, or part of a region
  • Perimetre confinement of towns, provinces, regions and autonomous communities.
In addition there are in place restrictions on arrivals for non Spaniards or residents on flights from the UK, Brasil and South Africa.

BELOW ARE THE RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE FOR EACH REGION IN SPAIN

ANDALUCIA

  • Nighttime curfew from 10pm to 6am.
  • Municipal confinement in towns with infection rates above 500 cases per 100,000 inhabotants.
  • Closure of non-essential businesses in municipalities with infection rates above 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
  • Up to date travel restrictions here
  • Social gatherings capped at four people in public spaces and private homes.
  • Bars, restaurants and shops closed at 18.00

ARAGÓN

  • Nightime curfew in place from 10pm-6am.
  • All non-essential activities must close by 8pm Mon-Thurs, and by 6pm Fri-Sun.
  • Social gatherings capped at  four people.
  • Bars and restaurants are limited to a maximum 30% capacity inside and 50% outside.
  • There are perimeter confinements on the provinces of Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel.
  • Travel between provinces and in and out of the region is not permited.
  • Perimeter confinements are in place in  municipalities over 10,000 inhabitants with an incidence rate above 250 cases per 100,000 over 14 days. These towns/cities are now restricted: Zaragoza, Huesca, Teruel and Calatayud.

ASTURIAS

  • Travelling in and out of the region is not permitted except for justified reasons.
  • Nighttime curfew is from 11pm to 6am.
  • Social gatherings capped at six people, preferably between a maximum of two households.
  • Maximum of four people can be seated at bars and restaurants, both inside and outside.
  • Maximum 30% capacity in shopping centres and stores.
  • Cultural events must not exceed 300 people in attendance, observing social distancing rules and wearing face masks.

BALEARIC ISLANDS

  • 4 level tier system in place for confinement measures depending island.
  • On the island of Mallorca until 28 Jan, social gatherings are limited to members of the same household, with exceptions for individuals who live alone and couples who live in separate residences.
  • The nighttime curfew for Mallorca is from 10pm to 6am. Restaurants closed apart from takeaway and home delivery.
  • Non-essential businesses close by 8pm, while essential businesses can open until 10pm.
  • Menorca and Formentera on level 3, the curfew is from midnight to 6am and social gatherings capped at six people. Bars and restaurants can open indoors, with a maximum of six people at a table. Shops can open at 50% capacity.
  • Ibiza is also on level 3, but has stricter measures: cafes, bars and restaurants cannot indoor areas and the curfew begins at 10pm.

BASQUE COUNTRY

  • Perimeter border lockdown in place.
  • Only travel with the same province is allowed, unless in cases of force majeure.
  • Nighttime curfew is from 10pm to 6am.
  • Social gatherings are limited to a maximum of six people from a maximum of two households.
  • All shops and stores, except for petrol stations and pharmacies must close at 9pm.
  • Night time prohibition of sale of  alcohol from all establishments from 9pm and 8am.
  • Bar and restaurant capacity is limited to 50% indoors. Counter service is prohibited and only four people are allowed at a table.

CANARY ISLANDS

  • The Canary Islands operate a three tier level for island measures in force.
  • Gran Canaria, Gomera  and Lanzarote are on level 2 with with nighttime curfew from 11pm to 6am and a maximum of four people at social gatherings.
  • Tenerife is on level 3, with the curfew from 10pm / 06am, social gatherings are capped at four people.
  • Bars and restaurants cannot serve indoors, and at 50% capacity outdoors.
  • In El Hierro, La Palma and Fuerteventura, on level 1, the curfew is from 12.00 to 6am with social gatherings limited to six people.

CANTABRIA

  • Regional perimeter lockdown
  • Nighttime curfew between 10pm and 6am.
  • Social gatherings limited to a maximum of six people.
  • Bars and restaurants and cannot serve indoors, only outdoors, where capacity is limited to 50%.
  • Capacity of most cultural, sporting and entertainment activities is reduced to 30%.

CASTILLA – LA MANCHA

  • The region’s borders are closed, with people only allowed to travel in and out for essential reasons, such as work and medical visits.
  • Nighttime curfew is from 00.00 to 0600.
  • Social gatherings capped at six people.
  • Bar and restaurant restrictions depend on the risk level of each municipality. In level 3 areas, bars, restaurants and cafés must close by 11pm and capacity in outdoor dining areas is reduced to 50%, with only six people allowed at the same table.
  • All cinemas, theatres and concert auditoriums closed.
  • Bars and restaurants cannot serve indoors.

CASTILLA Y LEÓN

  • The sutonomous community is under perimeter lockdown and has a four level alert system.
  • Nighttime curfew from 10pm to 6am.
  • Social gatherings capped at six people.
  • Major provincial cities with restrictions for residents and visitors include Burgos, León, Palencia, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora.

CATALONIA 

  • Widestpread municipality confinement by zone.
  • Large shops of over 400 sqm only are allowed to open on weekdays, but all retail premises closed weekends aprart from pharmacies, petrol stations and essential goods such as supermarkets.
  • Shopping centres and indoor shopping halls closed.
  • Bars and restaurants are allowed to open from 7am to 9.30am and from 1pm to 3.30pm.
  • Outside these hours take away and delivery services only.

EXTREMADURA

  • Hotels, shops and leisure activities are closed in municipalities with over 5,000 inhabitants.
  • Nighttime curfew is from 10pm to 6am.
  • Social gatherings capped at six people.
  • Capacity is limited to 30% in restaurants and bars.  Four diners max per table.

GALICIA

  • ‘Maximum restriction level’, in place.
  • The regional border closed.
  • All perimeters of municipalities closed with mobility allowed within municipality only.
  • Citizens are asked to ‘voluntarily’ remain at home after 8pm, although the legal nighttime curfew starts at 10pm.
  • Non-essential commerce can remain only only up to 6pm, but capacity in shops is limited to 50%.
  • For bars and restaurants closed apart from take/away and home deliveries.

LA RIOJA

  • Regional border closed until at least 31 January.
  • Social gatherings must be a maximum of four people.
  • Nighttime curfew from 2200 / 0600
  • Authorities have called on citizens ‘not to leave their homes unless it is strictly necessary’.
  • No counter service in bars and restaurants, capacity limited to 50%.
  • No restrictions on capacity in outdoor areas.
  • Capacity at stores and places of worship is limited to 50%.

MADRID

 

  • Madrid authorities have lifted the perimeter lockdown of the region. Travel in and out of the region is not restricted.
  • Barajas Airport does have restrictions for non Spaniards and non Spain residents from the UK, Brasil and South Africa
  • Updated 7 new basic health areas from 18 February totally 24 and 15 municipalities in place with local lockdown measures in place.
  • Nighttime curfew from 18 February  from 11pm to 6am

MURCIA

  • The whole region is under a perimeter lockdown.
  • Nighttime curfew is now from 10pm to 6am.
  • Social gatherings must be a maximum of six people.
  • The region’s three most populated cities – Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca – are also under a perimeter lockdown.
  • Travel to and from the following areas is also restricted: Molina de Segura, Moratalla, Mula, Albudeite, Las Torres de Cotillas, Alguazas, Ricote, Lorquí, Cieza, Ceutí, Los Alcázares, Abanilla, Villanueva del Río Segura, Fortuna, Jumilla, San Pedro del Pinatar, Las Torres de Cotillas, La Unión and Santomera. Bars and restaurants in these areas have been ordered to close.

NAVARRA 

  • Regional border is closed until 14 January.
  • Social gatherings are limited to six people from a maximum of two different households.
  • Nighttime curfew is from 11pm to 6am.
  • Capacity in bars and restaurants limited to 30% in indoor areas, but no limits on outdoor areas.
  • All bars and restaurants to be closed by 9pm and max 4 people per table unless next table is more than 1.5 metres away in which case the table maximum is 6 people.
  • Shops must close at 9pm with capacity at 50% for small stores and 40% for large establishments.

VALENCIA

  • The nighttime curfew 10pm / 06am.
  • Closure of bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues by 5pm, and a maximum of four people per table.
  • Smoking is banned on bar and restaurant terraces.
  • Shops will be limited to 30% capacity.
  • A maximum of six in all private social and family gatherings.
  • Any towns with a 14-day critical level of infections to be confined.
