Isabel Zendal Emergency Hospital Opens Today
The president of the Madrid regional government, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, inaugurated the Isabel Zendal Emergency Hospital today, Tuesday, December 1, which will be the country´s first purpsoe built facility to deal with mass emergency needs including future virus pandemics.
The 1,000 bed facility will also have 48 Intensive Care Units.
The emergency hospital has been the target of criticism from left wing parties and trade unions for it´s cost with many political leaders declining the invitation of the regional government to attend its opening. No representatives from Mas Madrid, Podermos or the Minister of Health, Salvado Illa were present.
The pandemic hospital has been built with the main objective to take any strain of the public health system in the region´s hospitals and medical centres in order that non covid related treatments can continue.
However the Madrid Nursing Association (AME), Juntas por la Pública, Summat and the Union Movement Assembly of Workers and Health Workers (MATS) have called a rally at the doors of the Zendal hospital to say “Enough already!”.
