Teenager Arrested For Speeding Up Castellana At 113 Kph

A 19-year-old young man who published a video on his social networks of him driving along Paseo de la Castellana at 113 km/h has been arrested.

The maximum speed allowed is 50 km/h.

The Madrid Police were alerted to the incident by viewers on Instragram and Tik Tok, who had viewed the man´s post of him speeding along Madrid´s central north-south avenue.

The post went viral with hundreds of thousands of views, likes and shares across Spain.

Officers carried out multiple enquiries about the post´s author and were quickly able to identify both driver and vehicle.

The man has now been arrested on suspicion of road safety offences.

The arrest comes as the DGT ( Directorate General of Traffic) launches an awareness campaign in the run up to wide ranging new traffic and driving regulation which come into force at the end of March.

The new measures will see reduced speed limits in urban areas as well as increased sanctions and fines for infractions.

The latest figures released by the DGT showed that 100 people were killed on Spanish roads in January of this year.
