Madrid Begins “Massive” PCR Covid Testing

The Minister for Health in the Communidad de Madrid, Enrique Ruiz Escudero announced today that the ministry will begin a “massive” Covid-19 testing programme next week in the capital.

The ministry will be testing in the worst affected districts of the current coronavirus surge being Carabanchel, Valverde, Vallecas, Usera, Puente de Vallecas, Alcobendas and Móstoles.

Testing Days will be:

  • Monday – Carabanchel
  • Tuesday – Usera
  • Wednesday – Villaverde
  • Thursday – Vallecas
  • Friday – Alcobendas
  • Saturday – Móstoles

Each district will be tested for up to 1,000 inhabitants between the ages of 15 and 49 who will be chosen at random and sent text messages to confirm the testing time and place.

The Comunidad of Madrid was the worst affected by the virus during the lockdown before dropping to very low levels in July.

However the recent spike in cases has turned into a surge with 890 new cases and 9 fatalities registered in the last 24 hours.

To date Spain has registered 355,856 Covid-19 cases of whom 28,605 have died. Madrid represents 90,587 of the cases and 15,249 fatalities.
