Madrid Fado Festival Set For This Saturday

Madrid’s Royal Opera House once more hosts the International Fado Festival, which brings together some of the finest performers of the genre featuring  Fábia Rebordão, Cuca Roseta and Ana Moura.

Fado,whose Portuguese origins go back to the early 19th century and whose melancholy sounds and mournful lyrics have gained increasing international recognition in recent years was added to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011.

This year there will also be a series of additional exhibitions and screenings in the Teatro Real to accompany the festival.

The festival will feature three prominent artists,  Fábia Rebordão, Cuca Roseta and Ana Moura, the latter is considered one of the fines of her generation.
