Madrid Gets Tapping With 37th International Dance Festival
Madrid is set to return to being the epicentre of European dance this week as the 37th Madrid en Danza Festival opens this Friday, 29th April.
The festival which brings together the latest in international, national and local dance through a programme of performances in unique and alternative venues in the capital and across the region.
Madrid en Danza mixes the new and the old with established figures and emerging artists to showcase the new aesthetics and trends of national & international dance genres and has established itself as one of the main choreographic events in Europe, alongside the Lyon Dance Biennale and the Cannes Dance Festival.
This year’s festival is hosted by Teatros del Canal with shows from artists as far afield as Norway, the United States, Belgium, Canada, Israel and the UK.
The 2022 themes focus on such issues as the transformations of contemporary societies, migration, identity, borders and individual freedom, to which dance acts as a witness, inviting reflection.
Spanish artists bring dance companies from Madrid, Galicia and Catalonia.
The festival runs until 14th June.
