Madrid Pips Barcelona In Luxury Shopping Destination Survey

Yet another survey has confirmed Madrid´s ascendance in rankings for best visitor destinations pipping arch rivals Barcelona off the top pirch as the leading luxury shopping destination in Spain.

The survey released today was compiled by online fashion house analysing data across Europe.

No surprise that Paris takes the top spot in Europe with the continent’s highest score at 9.2/10. The French capital is home to the highest number of clothing shops out of all analysed cities (3,137), well ahead of its nearest rival London with a luxury score of 8.9/10.

However the Spanish capital took 3rd place and ahead of its Catalan rival with a luxury score of 8.7/10 to take bronze for Europe’s most luxurious city.

Madrid’s main shopping street, the Gran Via, contributes to its 1,052 clothing shops. While this is lower than less lavish hotspots like Berlin (1,500), Vienna (1,154) and Sofia (1,178), Madrid’s frequency of fine dining restaurants (402) elevates it to Europe’s luxury podium.

In addition Madrid has a plethora of the world´s top luxury brands in the high end Salamanca district including  Chanel (Ortega y Gasset, 16), Dior (Ortega y Gasset, 6), Yves Saint-Laurent (Serrano, 34), Louis Vuitton (Serrano, 66), Prada (Serrano, 26) , Hermès (Ortega y Gasset, 12), Gucci (Serrano, 49), Armani (Serrano, 44), Tiffany & Co. (Ortega y Gasset, 10), Chopard (Serrano, 51), Dolce & Gabbana (Jose Ortega y Gasset, 14); Bvlgari (José Ortega y Gasset, 17), Valentino (José Ortega y Gasset, 16),  Breitling (Serrano, 30), Jaeger-LeCoultre (José Ortega y Gasset, 11) and many others including home grown Spanish brand Loewe, whose bags have hung from the arms of Spanish & increasingly international celebs since the nineteenth century.
