Real Madrid Prepare For 17th Champions League Final Despite Losing Derby

This weekend saw La Liga´s last Madrid derby of the season as Real lost 1-0 to Athletico at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium yesterday, Sunday 8th May,

Despite the loss, Real Madrid head into the final weeks of preparation for their 17th Champion League final, with a spring in their step.

The team, under veteran coach, Carlo Ancelotti, had already clinched the Liga championship before yesterday´s game – indeed they did so with 5 games in hand.

Real are the bookie´s favourites to win the title in Paris on May 28th having won the title 13 times compares to Liverpool´s six.

With this year´s Liga championship Real Madrid have extended their lead as Spain´s most successful club having won the title 35 times.

Real Madrid beat Liverpool in their last encounter in the Champions League final of 2017/18 but lost to the English side in 1980/81.

Some 20,000 Real Madrid fans are expected to travel to Paris for the match with most still savouring their team’s dramatic 3-1 “miraculous” comeback semi-final win over Manchester City at the Bernabeu last week.

City looked set to go through until the 90th minute when Rodrygo, a 21-year-old forward, emerged as the team’s saviour with two goals in the final minutes of extra time before giving star striker  Karim Benzema the chance to convert the winning penalty to sink the English side.
