The Spanish National Police have a arrested an 80-year old man following the death of his 81-year wife who had been hit several times with a hammer.
It is believed that the woman was killed by her husband during a domestic dispute at their home in the district of Moratalaz yesterday evening, Tuesday 15th June.
Medical emergency teams arrived at the couples apartment at Calle Montpellier 1, and treated the woman at the scene for severe trauma to the head.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Hospital 12 de Octubre, in a critical condition, but doctors were unable to save her life.

The 80 year old man – believed to be her husband, has been arrested on a murder charge, as the investigation continues.
The victim is the 19th woman to be killed at the hands of her partner this year in Spain. Four of which had previously reported domestic abuse from their partners to the authorities.
Last week a 59 year old British woman, was killed by her 66 year-old husband at their upmarket house in the Somosaguas district of Madrid following a dispute over their divorce.
