Madrid Extends Tourism Subsidy For Visitors
The Madrid regional government have announced a San Valentine extention of the Visit Madrid promotion which was launched at the end of the last year.
The promotion which is aimed at visitors from the rest of Spain allows tourists who are resident in other parts of Spain to receive up to 50% subsidies on their costs of their trip, up to a maximum of 600 EUR.
To date the scheme has attracted some 5,300 participants at a cost to the regional government of just over 1.2 million Euros.
5 million Euros has been set aside for the scheme, which is now to be extended until the 15th May.
The Madrid government hope the promotion will bring an additional 40,000 visitors to the region.
Madrid´s regional premier, Isabel Diaz Ayuso and Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida are keen to promote Madrid as “one of the best destinations in the world” with an eye to stealing Barcelona´s crown as the leading city destination in Spain.
The Madrid region boasts 5 UNESCO world heritage sites including the towns of Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez, the monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the ancient forest of Hayedo de Montejo and the recently added Paisaje de la Luz, encompassing the Retiro Park and El Prado areas of the capital.
