Wild Bears Take Spring Break

To show the ever increasing number of bears in the wild this footage has been released showing a mother bear and her cub cooling off on a warm Spring day at a restored rural water trough that was originally intended for livestock and amphibians.

The footage was obtained from the regional government of Castile and Leon in Spain on 26th April, with a statement saying: “The watering troughs and basins we fixed four months ago, including amphibian ramps, are not only used by livestock… A bear and her cub cool off in the late afternoon.”

The video shows the mama bear enjoying her ‘bath’ as she splashes around, with the young cub approaching the water curiously.

Then, as if to let the cub know that the ‘tub’ was free, the mother bear gets out, leaving it all to the youngling as the footage ends.

Brown bears (Ursus arctos) are found in a number of regions in Spain, including Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and Leon and Galicia, and are the subjects of a number of conservation programmes.
