Madrid Classic Car Rally & Vintage Air Display
Madrid´s Cuatro Vientos Aerodrome will be the scene of one of the biggest gatherings of classic cars and vintage aircrafts on Sunday 2nd March.
The event organised by the Fundacion Hispano Britanica and the Royal Aero Club Of Spain will see a host of some of the grandest British and Spanish car marques including Bentley, Rolls Royce and Hispano Suiza coming together.
As well as the car rally, there will also be a display of vintage aircrafts from the collection of the Fundacion Infante de Orleans which has one of the largest such collections in Spain including many from the 1920s and 30s such as German Focke Wolfe biplanes and an orginal British de Havilland Dragon Rapide.
The Cuatro Vientos Aerodrome has the distinction of being where first aircraft to fly non stop from England to Spain landed in 1919.
The aircraft, an Alliance P.1 biplane, piloted by James Peters, left the then West Acton Aerodrome in London at at 7.30 in the morning and touched down at Cuatro Vientos 7¾-hours later.
Tickets cost 65 Euros for members of the British -Spanish Foundation or 75 Euros for non-members ( under 12s are 35 Euros) which include a sumptious 3 course lunch with wine at the aerodrome´s club house.
