Madrid´s “Feria de Libro” Starts Today

Despite the rain showers the 82nd annual Madrid Book Fair (Feria del Libro) kicks off today in the Retiro Park.

The fair which is one of the capital´s top cultural and literary festivals dates back to 1933 ( the fair was not celebrated from 1936 to 1944) and attracts hundreds of thousands of book lovers.

This year some 350 stalls are set up on the Paseo de Carruajes in Madrid’s Retiro Park ( closest entrance is Puerta de la Reina Mercedes ) showcasing the publishers latest offerings as well as a chance for readers to meet their favourite authors for book signings including Eva García Sáenz de Urturi, Dolores Redondo, Fernando Aramburu, Carmen Mola and historian Ian Gibson, amongst many others.

There are also large tents for exhibitions, presentations and talks.

This year´s theme is science with the motto of:  “We’re into Science and Letters” and you can join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #DeCienciasYLetras.

Opening times are weekdays from  11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m and weekends from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

If this year is anything like previous ones – come prepared for large crowds and long queues for signings and events.

Last year saw some 3 million visitors to the fair which generated some 10 million Euros in book sales.
