Madrid´s Dabid Muñoz, who earlier this year won the prestigious Best Chef Award, has added another feather in his cap with his 3 Michelin star ranked Diverxo, making the top 20 of the worlds best restaurant´s list.
The annual list which was announced at an awards ceremony in Antwerp, brings together industry professionals to vote for the best restaurants in the world, has once more a strong Spanish showing with 5 restaurants making to the top 20, including the Basque Country´s Asador Etxebarri at No3 and Barcelona´s Disfrutar at No5.
The complete list of the world´s best restaurants can be seen here: The World´s Best.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has been published since 2002, with winners chosen by a panel “of more than 1,000 culinary experts, as well as its structured and audited voting procedure”
The annual list “aims to provide a snapshot of some of the best destinations for unique culinary experiences, in addition to being a barometer for global gastronomic trends”.
Describing Diverxo as a “wacky wonderland of a restaurant, (it) is the brainchild of Dabiz Muñoz, known for his daring approach to dishes, and widely considered one of the world’s most creative cooks”.
The restaurant´s 12-course tasting menu “takes diners through innovative, Asian-inspired dishes such as Iberian pork dumpling filled with Spanish broth and Korean gochujang with grilled cuttlefish and yellow pepper pil-pil, or ‘Galician lobster waking up on the beaches of Goa’, which combines tandoor cooking with sushi rice and a lobster head vindaloo – and looks like a work of art on the plate”.
For the first time the list excludes previous winners who join a new “best of the best” category, which again includes a strong Spanish contingent including, El Buli and El Celler de Can Roce.
