35th Annual Goya Film Awards Nominations Announced

The nominations for the Spanish film industry’s coverted Goya Awards have been announced for 2021.

The gala ceremony will be held on 6th March at the Teatro Soho CaixaBank in Malaga and hosted by Antonio Banderas and María Casado, where the winners will be announced.

The nominees for Best Film of 2021 were Adú, Ane, Girls, Rosa’s Wedding and Sentimental.

It was followed by Girls and Akelarre, with nine nominations each, eight for Rosa’s Wedding and six for Black Beach.

For the first time films available on streaming have been eligible to compete – previously only cinema releases and television productions have been allowed.

Top contendors for Best Director are Icíar Bollaín with Rosa’s Wedding and Salvador Calvo with Adú.

Ana Belén and Dani Rovira announced the finalists of the 2021 awards accompanied by the president of the Academy, Mariano Barroso today in Madrid.

Of the 155 film nominations; 82 are fiction, 72 documentaries and 2 animation which also include 56 European and 16 Latin American films.
