Popemobile Arrives As Final Preparations Made For Papal Visit
The Final preparations for Pope Leo XIV´s inaugural apostolic visit to Madrid are being made including the arrival yesterday of the iconic popemobile at Torrejon airbase close to the capital.
The Pope is due to land at Barajas Airport on Saturday 6th June for the official 6-day visit to Spain which includes 3 days in Madrid then stops in Barcelona and the Canary Islands.
King Felipe and Queen Leticia will lead the official welcoming party at Barajas Airport before being driven to the formal reception at the Royal Palace with representatives of Spain’s leading institutions, civil society and the diplomatic corps.
The pope has a packed agenda including visits, speeches as well as open air masses.
The Madrid leg includes an evening prayer vigil for young people at Plaza de Lima and open air mass in the Plaza de Cibeles, which will be followed by a Eucharistic procession through the surrounding streets to mark the occasion.
He will also meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and make an address to a joint session of the Congress and the Senate on Monday.
