British Ambassador’s Halloween Fundraising Pumpkin Surprise
The British Ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliott, who is also the Patron of the Madrid based British Benevolent Fund has lent his support to a novel fundraising event.
The Halloween themed virtual event drew an audience from across Europe including the UK as well as from Spain to raise awareness and raise much needed funds for the BBF.
The British Benevolent Fund is the oldest English-Speaking charity in Spain and provides financial support to UK residents in Spain who face financial hardship.
This year due to the continuing economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic the fund has faced an unprecedented surge in applications for financial assistance.
So far the BBF has distributed 50,000 Euros in grants and relief including flight repatriation from Spain to the UK, medical bills, home and utlieity expenses amongs others.
The British Benevolent Fund was founded in the 1930´s during the 2nd Republic and has long been associated with the British Embassy and community in Spain.
