Latina Music Star Killed In Madrid Hit & Run

A Latina teenage music star was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Madrid just as she was tipped to be nominated for a Grammy award.

Singer Adriana Isabel Mojica Trabanino, 19, from El Salvador, was mowed on a motorway service in the municipality of Torrelodones, as she walked to a bus stop on 5th September.

Andriana was tipped to be nominated for the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards and had only just moved to Europe from her native El Salvador in Central America.

Local media reports say she was walking towards a bus stop when she was hit by a BMW driven by a 20-year-old man who fled without stopping.

Paramedics declared her dead at the scene from multiple injuries.

Police tracked down and arrested the driver who now faces charges of negligent homicide and failure to provide assistance but has not been named.

Adriana, also known as Adri, was only just beginning her career in music.

She had recently received the award for Ballad of the Year at the 503 Awards in El Salvador, for her single ‘Oportunidad’.

She had just released her second single, ‘Perdida’, which was quickly taken up by social media users.

In an interview with ElSalvador.com last year, Adriana said: “Sometimes you don’t realise the dimension of your effort and the impact of your works until it is recognised on platforms like these.

“It seemed surreal to me at first since I still have fresh memories of being in my room under the sheets writing the lyrics.

“It was incredible and it is an experience for which I am very grateful.”

Her friend, El Salvadoran singer Analu Dada, said an emotional farewell message: “My Adri. What a great pain, it seems unbelievable.

“You were a being of light in the lives of all those we knew. Thank you for everything you taught me, for your pure friendship, your laughter and your bayuncadas [jokes]. I will always miss you.

“I have no doubt that you will be cheering up the little angels in heaven and singing all day long. I love you.”
