Michelangelo Sistene Chapel Exhibition Arrives In Madrid

One of the most celebrated artworks in history has arrived in Madrid.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: “The Exhibition’ has been touring the world´s leading cities since 2015, and now is being shown in the Spanish capital.

The exhibition´s centrepiece is a high-resolution, full-scale, reproduction of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling paintings.

The frescoes painted on the ceiling of the chapel in the Vatican´s Apostolic Palace were commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1508 and took four years to finish.

Today known as the Sistine Ceiling, they are considered to be one of the greatest artistic achievements of all time.

The exhibition is being shown at the Moda Shopping Centre in central Madrid.

The masterpiece has been reproduced using high-definition photos and special printing techniques to emulate in detail, the original look and feel of the artist´s 34 frescoes.

Each image is accompanied by information to guide the visitor for the most in-depth experience and comes with the distinct advantage of being able to be viewed at eye level rather than staring up uncomfortably at the 20 metre high ceiling.

The up-close vantage point affords viewers the chance to observe small details that might otherwise go unnoticed, and even see reproductions of the maestros´individual brushstrokes.

The exhibition runs until 27 February 2022.
